Fort Lee is located on the Hudson River across from Manhattan and is connected to this New York City borough by the George Washington Bridge , over which Interstate 95 runs, which coincides with US Highway 1 and US Highway 9 .

Fort Lee was a defensive structure of the Continental Army at the beginning of the American Revolutionary War .
