Bogota is a city in Bergen County , New Jersey , United States of about 8,000 residents. The name of the city is a suitcase word that is composed of the names of the first two families who settled here at the end of the 19th century: Bog ert and Ban ta , connected by an O. In contrast to the name of the Colombian capital , with which this place has nothing to do, the place name is emphasized on the second syllable: Bo go ta.

The city's geographic coordinates are 40 ° 52'26 "north latitude and 74 ° 1'40" west longitude. The small town is on the Hackensack River , about eight miles north of Manhattan .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 2.1 km² , of which 7.32% is water.
