Robert Florey

Robert Florey (born September 14, 1900 in Paris , † May 16, 1979 in Santa Monica , California ) was a French-American director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Born in France, he went to Switzerland during the First World War in 1915, where he was a camera assistant for the documentary film Geneve at the age of 15 . At 17 he had his first appearance in the melodrama Le cirque de la mort . At the same time he worked as a sports reporter. In 1920 he directed his first film Un heureuse intervention . In 1921 he moved to New York as a correspondent . After moving to Hollywood, he worked there as an assistant to Josef von Sternberg , Frank Borzage and Victor Fleming , before starting as a director himself in 1926.

In 1950 he was awarded the Order of the French Legion of Honor Award.
