Thomas Monroe

Thomas Monroe (born September 26, 1902 , † April 24, 1960 in Sawtelle , California ) was an American screenwriter who was twice nominated for the Oscar for best original story.

Life

Monroe wrote templates and scripts for only five films and television series between 1941 and 1958 . For his first work he was nominated for an Oscar for the best original story, together with Billy Wilder at the Academy Awards in 1942 for the comedy film The Strange Taming of the Gangster Bride Sugarpuss, directed by Howard Hawks (alternative title: Whirlwind of Love , OT: Ball of Fire, 1941) starring Gary Cooper , Barbara Stanwyck and Oskar Homolka .

Monroe received his second Oscar nomination for the best original story in 1946 with László Görög for the comedy Oh, Susanne! (The Affairs of Susan, 1945) by William A. Seiter with Joan Fontaine , George Brent and Dennis O'Keefe .

The 1965 Turkish film romance Ates gibi kadin by Aram Gülyüz with Tanju Gürsu , Leyla Sayar and Kenan Pars was based on the template for The Strange Taming of the Gangster Bride Sugarpuss .
