Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale in the US state of California is one of six cemeteries of the American company "Forest Lawn Memorial Parks & Mortuaries". It is the first in a series of later Forest Lawn Memorial Parks in the United States and Canada .

history

Forest Lawn was founded as a not-for-profit cemetery in 1906 by several San Francisco businessmen. Hubert L. Eaton and CB Sims acquired the cemetery in 1912. Eaton took over the business of the cemetery in 1917 and is considered to be the founder of today's Memorial Park. Eaton believed in a happy life after death. He thought most cemeteries were ugly and depressing rock gardens and wanted to found a resting place that reflected his optimistic thoughts about death.

Chapels

There are three chapels in Glendale : The Little Church of the Flowers , The Wee Kirk o 'the Heather , and The Church of the Recessional , all of which are exact replicas of European chapels. More than 60,000 people have now been married in Forest Lawn, including Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman .
