Jim Rohn

Emanuel James "Jim" Rohn (born September 17, 1930 in Yakima, Washington , † December 5, 2009 in Los Angeles ) was an American entrepreneur , author and motivational speaker .

Life

Emanuel James "Jim" Rohn was born in Yakima (Washington) to Emanuel and Clara Rohn. His family owned a farm in Idaho , where Jim was raised as an only child.

After graduating from high school, Rohn went to college but left after a year and a half and began working as a clerk for Sears . After persuading a friend, he attended a lecture by John Earl Shoaff , an entrepreneur and motivational speaker , who impressed Rohn with his wealth, charisma and philosophy of life and had a decisive influence on his later life. Shoaff was then vice president of the nutritional supplement manufacturer AbundaVita. In October 1955, Rohn joined AbundaVita and began working on his personal development . His mentor Shoaff, who challenged him to become a millionaire in five years, died a year before Rohn actually became a millionaire at age 31.

Jim Rohn died on 5 December 2009 in West Hills (Los Angeles) to pulmonary fibrosis .

Career

Rohn finished his high school as the third best of 140 students. He dropped out of college after a year and a half to look for a job. At 25, he was working as a warehouse worker for $ 57 a week when a friend invited him to give a lecture by industrialist John Earl Shoaff. Shoaff's achievements as well as his charisma , prosperity and philosophy of life impressed Rohn. In October 1955 he became a distributor for the nutritional supplement manufacturer AbundaVita , for which Shoaff also worked. When Shoaff left the company in 1957 and founded Nutri-Bio , Rohn also switched to Nutri-Bio and became deputy director in 1960. At the age of 31 he was already a millionaire.

After Nutri-Bio went bankrupt in the early 1960s, Rohn lost almost all of his $ 2.3 million fortune, as well as his homes and cars.

Rohn was invited by a friend to showcase his dishwasher to millionaire story at the local Rotary club in Beverly Hills . He accepted and named his talk Idaho Farm Boy Makes It To Beverly Hills. His fascinating history and simple philosophy of life quickly earned him many invitations from schools and various companies. In 1963 he gave his first public seminar at the Beverly Hills Hotel .

In 1966, his former Nutri-Bio colleague William E. Bailey founded Bestline Products , hired Rohn to recruit and train new staff nationwide, and paid him half a million dollars for it. In the 1970s, Rohn conducted seminars for marketing executives at Standard Oil of California . During this time he also managed the company Adventures in Achievement with seminars and workshops to train personal development .

Rohn worked in this position for more than 40 years worldwide as a motivational speaker and trainer and had a decisive influence on the development of motivational training and motivational coaching. Many well-known motivational speakers and writers, such as Tony Robbins , Brian Tracy , T. Harv Eker , Mark Victor Hansen, and Jack Canfield , recognize the impact Rohn's work had on their careers.

In the early 1980s, Jim Rohn met Mark Hughes and then worked for his company Herbalife, also as a trainer for salespeople. In 1985 , he received the National Speakers Association's CPAE Award for his speech .
