The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills in Los Angeles County is a luxury hotel known for its Hollywood film industry clients . It has 208 guest rooms and 23 bungalows and is located on 9641 Sunset Boulevard .

The first hotel building was built in 1912 by the architect Elmer Gray on behalf of real estate developer Burton Green under the direction of Margaret J. Anderson in the previously largely uninhabited area. Green named the hotel after his native Beverly Farms in Massachusetts and thus also gave the name of the later city of Beverly Hills. Green's investment was around $ 500,000. Charlie Chaplin was a guest in the 1920s. In the following decades there were several changes of ownership, including at times the Noy Railway News and Hotel Company and an investor group consisting of Hernando Courtright, Irene Dunne , Loretta Young and Harry Warner . The Polo Lounge was set up under Courtright and has become a trend bar and restaurant in the city. In 1948, under the architect Paul Williams, the Crescent wing was added.

From 1954 to 1979 the real estate investor Ben L. Silberstein was the owner; he had bought the property for $ 5.5 million and also lived in the hotel. In the 1950s, the British Princess Margaret with Lord Snowdon , Albert of Belgium , Rainier Grimaldi , John Wayne , Henry Fonda , Elizabeth Taylor , Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin, Humphrey Bogart and Marlene Dietrich, among others, came here regularly . While filming Why did I say yes? lived Gregory Peck and Lauren Bacall in the hotel; Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand lived in bungalows 20 and 21 during the shooting of Let's do it in love .

In 1986, billionaire Marvin Davis bought the hotel for $ 136 million. As early as 1987 he sold it to the Brunei Investment Agency of the Sultanate of Brunei . After several years of complete renovation, it was reopened in 1995. The following year it became part of the Dorchester Collection . In March 2019, Hollywood star George Clooney called for a boycott of the hotel after the death penalty for homosexuals was introduced in Brunei.

The cover of the album " Hotel California " by the band Eagles has a photo of the hotel. A clear connection to the hotel is denied by the band members.
