Controversy

The hotel chain has been the subject of public controversy on several occasions after Islamic Sharia law was tightened in Brunei . Several celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres and Jay Leno , called for a boycott of the hotel chain in 2014. When Brunei introduced the death penalty for same-sex sex in March 2019 , calls for a boycott were again raised. Deutsche Bank and the Financial Times , among others , announced that they would avoid the Dorchester Collection hotels in the future.
