Charles Waldron
Charles Dieudonnee Waldron (born December 23, 1874 in Waterford , New York , † March 4, 1946 in Hollywood , California ) was an American actor.
Life
Charles Waldron began his long acting career as a theater actor. In December 1907 he made his Broadway debut in New York with the hit piece The Warrens of Virginia . Over the following decades until 1945 Waldron roles took in nearly 40 Broadway productions, most notably serious matter as the Shakespearean tragedies, The Barretts of Wimpole Street and Madame X . Waldron made his film debut in the short film comedy Big Noise Hank as early as 1911 , but it wasn't until the mid-1930s that he starred regularly in films. Mostly, the white-haired character actor was cast in supporting roles as a person of respect in films such as The Golden Whip or Stranger on the Third Floor . He embodied many doctors, officers, judges and pastors. His last of a total of over 60 films was the film noir Dead Sleeping , where he starred alongside Humphrey Bogart in the role of retired General Sternwood - the father of Lauren Bacall .
Charles Waldron was married to May King from 1907 until his death, they had a daughter and a son. The son Charles Waldron Jr. (1914-1952) was also active as a film actor. Charles Waldron died in March 1946 at the age of 71.
