Life

Blossom Rock was the older sister of actress and singer Jeanette MacDonald , with whom she appeared in vaudeville theaters in her youth . From 1931 she played in more than 100 feature films, often under the pseudonym Marie Blake . In contrast to her sister Jeanette, however, she was never supposed to make the big breakthrough to become a film star: She usually played in small supporting roles that were not mentioned in the opening credits or credits. In the 1940s she had a recurring role as Sally receptionist in the Dr. Kildare film series with Lew Ayres and Lionel Barrymore . In the political film The Candidate (1964) she played a small role as a cleaning lady. It wasn't until the 1960s that Blossom Rock became known to a wide audience through her portrayal of her grandmother in the popular television series The Addams Family .

Since 1926 she was married to Clarence Rock, who died in 1960. The marriage remained childless. She died of natural causes on January 14, 1978 in Los Angeles at the age of 82.
