Binnie Barnes
Binnie Barnes (born March 25, 1903 in London , † July 27, 1998 in Beverly Hills , California ; a native of Gittel Enoyce Barnes ) was a British actress .
Life
After initially working in other professions, she applied for an advertisement in Berlin for the dance troupe of the Tiller Girls , but only managed to become a choir singer. She then began a dance career in London and appeared in revues. She received her first leading role in the play Little Tommy Tucker .
Her film career began in 1929 with a few short sound films, and her first major role was in Love Lies in 1931 . She became known in 1933 as Catherine Howard in the period film The Private Life of Henry VIII , another leading role followed in 1934 in The Private Life of Don Juan . She now went to Hollywood , where, apart from a few leading roles, she often played the friend of the actual heroine.
Since the 1950s, Barnes gradually withdrew from the film business and spent her retirement years in Los Angeles doing social and charitable activities. She was married to the actor Mike Frankovich (1910-1992) in second marriage. A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is dedicated to her.
