Barbara Ruick
Barbara Joan Ruick (born December 23, 1930 in Pasadena , California , † March 3, 1974 in Reno , Nevada ) was an American actress and singer .
Life
She was the daughter of actress Lurene Tuttle and actor Melville Ruick . From 1956 until her death she was married to film composer John Williams . This marriage resulted in three children: Jennifer (* 1956), Mark (* 1958) and Joseph (* 1960).
Ruick started on the radio and then signed a contract with MGM . She played her best-known roles in the music films Carousel (as Carrie Pipperidge) and Cinderella (as Esmerelda). She sang the title role on the first recording of George Gershwin's Oh, Kay! .
She died of a cerebral haemorrhage while filming California Split . The film was then dedicated to her.
