John DuCasse Schulze

John DuCasse Schulze (born April 23, 1876 in Illinois , † June 17, 1943 in Hollywood , Los Angeles ) was an American film set designer .

Life

John DuCasse Schulze began his career as a production designer for film in Hollywood in 1921 , where he was initially responsible for a number of silent films for small production companies such as First National Pictures . He often worked there under the direction of Edwin Carewe . The two Mary Pickford films Die kleine Annemarie ( Little Annie Rooney , 1925) and My Best Girl (1927), distributed by United Artists, are also among his works. From 1929 to 1932 he was employed by Fox Film Corporation . After that, he mostly worked for producer Edward Small . In 1941 he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Production Design for The Wrong Paths of Oliver Essex ( My Son, My Son! ). In 1942 he was nominated again with Edward G. Boyle for The Hour of Retribution ( The Son of Monte Cristo ). In the same year he was involved in a film production for the last time. He died of heart disease in Hollywood in 1943 at the age of 67 and was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
