Art Acord (* 17th April 1890 in Prattville , Sevier County , Utah , † 4. January 1931 in Chihuahua , Mexico ) was an American silent film - actor and rodeo champion.

Life

Baptized Artemus Ward Acord , he was raised in a Mormon family. As a young man he worked as a cowboy . With his involvement in the emerging film industry, he became the first real cowboy in western films. In addition to acting, he also worked as a stuntman and screenwriter.

In 1912 he won the world title in Steer Bulldogging and became a celebrated rodeo champion; he repeated this success in 1916. After enrolling in the United States Army , he served in Europe during the First World War. Upon his return, he appeared as Buck Parvin in a number of well-known short films. In total, Acord made 100 short films. Most of them no longer exist today.

Because of his severe drinking problems and inability to navigate films with dubbed sound, Acord's career dwindled and ended with road shows in Mexico.

After his death in 1931, he was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale , California . According to official reports, he is said to have committed suicide; Close friends claimed that it was the revenge of a Mexican politician because Acord had an affair with his wife.

Acord received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the film industry .
