Louis Silvers

Louis Silvers (* 6. September 1889 in New York City , New York ; † 26. March 1954 in Hollywood , California ) was an American composer of film music , who at the Oscar ceremony in 1935 the Oscar for best film music received.

Life

Silvers, who was temporarily married to the film actress Janet Adair , was already involved in the first sound film Der Jazzsänger (1927) as the composer of the song “Mother of Mine, I Still Have You” and as conductor of the film orchestra . During his career in the Hollywood film industry , he was involved in nearly 300 films and was musical director of the Lux Radio Theater for several years.

At the Academy Awards in 1935, he and Victor Schertzinger and Gus Kahn received the Academy Award for best film music in One Night of Love (1934) for the Studio Music Department of Columbia Pictures . This was followed by three more Oscar nominations in the category of best music, namely in 1938 for the Studio Music Department of 20th Century Fox for In Old Chicago (1937), in 1939 for Suez (1938) and most recently at the 1940 Oscars for Swanee River (1939 ).

He also wrote the music for the films Weary River (1929), Disraeli (1929), It Happened in One Night (1934), Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), Heidi (1937) and The Little Princess (1939). He has worked with film directors such as Frank Lloyd , Henry King , Allan Dwan , Frank Capra , Alfred E. Green , Victor Schertzinger, Sidney Lanfield and Walter Lang throughout his career .
