Isabel Sanford
Eloise Gwendolyn Sanford (born August 29, 1917 in New York City , New York - † July 9, 2004 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress . She was best known for her role as Louise "Weezy" Jefferson in All in the Family (1971–1975) and The Jeffersons (1975–1985).
Career
Sanford was born in New York City , New York to parents James Edward Sanford and Josephine Perry. She became the first African-American actress to win an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 1981. Sanford has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . She was a member of the " Alpha Kappa Alpha " sorority and received an honorary doctorate from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1967 she made her film debut in Rat mal, who comes to dinner in the role of the black domestic worker Tillie Binks.
Sanford died of cardiac arrest and heart disease on July 9, 2004 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles , California . She was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
