Fay Babcock

Fay Clark Babcock (born June 15, 1895 in San Francisco , † November 12, 1970 in Los Angeles ) was an American film set designer .

Life

Fay Babcock first worked as a production designer for film in Hollywood in 1931 . But it wasn't until 1937 that she was one of the few women in her profession to get a permanent contract with Columbia Pictures . In 1943, along with Lionel Banks and Rudolph Sternad , she received her first Oscar nomination in the Best Production Design category for the comedy Witness of the Prosecution ( The Talk of the Town ) with Cary Grant and Jean Arthur . In 1945 there was another nomination for the Technicolor film musical Es tanzt die Göttin ( Cover Girl ) with Rita Hayworth and Gene Kelly . From 1946 she worked as a freelance set decorator for various film studios. From the mid-1950s, she was also responsible for the sets of American television series. In 1962 she retired. She died in Los Angeles in 1970 at the age of 75 . Her grave is in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
