Alexander Hall (director)

Alexander Hall (born January 11, 1894 in Boston , Massachusetts , USA , † July 30, 1968 in San Francisco , California , USA) was an American film director and film editor .

Career

Alexander Hall was already on the theater stage at the age of four before he first came to film as an actor in 1914. After the end of the war, he switched to working as an editor and assistant director before shooting his first film as a director for Paramount Pictures with Sinners in the Sun in 1932 .

He made many light comedies in the 1930s, but did not reach the peak of his career until he joined Columbia Pictures . There he was responsible for, among other things, Vacation from Heaven with Robert Montgomery , Bedtime Story with Loretta Young and One Kiss Too Many , a comedy with Joan Crawford . His career came to an end in the 1950s. In 1942 he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Director .
