Blanche Mehaffey (born July 28, 1908 in Cincinnati , Ohio , † March 31, 1968 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress who began her career as a showgirl .

Life

Blanche Mehaffey was born as one of two children to soprano Blanche Berndt and her husband Edward Mehaffey. She began her career as a showgirl with the Ziegfeld Follies . Their producer Florenz Ziegfeld junior is said to have called Mehaffey's eyes "the most beautiful in the whole world". In 1923 she managed to start an acting career in Hollywood . In the following year, Mehaffey was voted one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars who were predicted to have great careers in the film industry.

In the early years of her career, Blanche Mehaffey appeared primarily in Hal Roach films. She mostly played roles in comedies, often alongside her film partners Charley Chase and Glenn Tryon . In 1925 Mehaffey starred as Lennie Porter in the film A Mundane Woman . After a successful transition from silent to sound films, she continued to work as a female lead in several films, but ended her acting career in 1938 at the age of 30.

In January 1928, Blanche Mehaffey married George Joseph Hausen, who worked in the oil business, in Los Angeles. The marriage lasted only ten weeks and was subsequently divorced. In her second marriage she was married to the film producer Ralph M. Like. Both marriages remained childless.

Blanche Mehaffey died on March 31, 1968, aged 59, of a barbiturate overdose at her Los Angeles home. She was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
