George Montgomery (production designer)

George Steel Montgomery (born September 23, 1899 - March 5, 1951 in Los Angeles ) was an American production designer for films.

Life

George Montgomery worked as outfitter for Frank Capra in 1939. Mr. Smith goes to Washington for the first time for film in Hollywood , where he was employed by Columbia Pictures until his death in 1951 . He worked on films such as The Boogie Man Will Get You (1942) with Boris Karloff and Mr. Winkle Goes to War (1944) with Edward G. Robinson . Most of the 75 film productions in which he was involved, however, had low budgets. Nevertheless, he and Lionel Banks received an Oscar nomination for Best Production Design for The Secret of the Three Sisters in 1942 . In the end, however, they could not prevail against Richard Day , Nathan Juran and Thomas Little , who received the Oscar for John Ford's Beating Weather . Montgomery's grave is in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
