Life

Ali-Ollie Woodson's musical career began in the early 1970s with Bill Pinkney's Original Drifters . He then switched to Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and also sang on Teddy Pendergrass' later albums . He was also a backing vocalist for Whitney Houston , Rachelle Ferrell and Aretha Franklin .

In 1984 he joined the Temptations . He replaced the then lead singer Dennis Edwards for the album Truly for You . The record produced by Earth, Wind and Fire guitarist Al McKay is considered the strongest Temptations album of the 1980s and ensured Woodson's stay in the soul band. As a songwriter , he participated in the hit single Treat Her Like a Lady . Woodson also took part on the album To Be Continued… (1986), then Edwards came back to the Temptations for a year. After he left again, Woodson remained one of the group's main singers until 1996.

In the later 1990s, Woodson worked again as a backing singer and founded the cover band Emperors of Soul , which presented Temptations and Motown classics on stage. In 2001 his solo album Right Here All Along was released . In 2003 Woodson appeared as a duet partner of Aretha Franklin in the concert special Rhythm, Soul & Love for the television station PBS . Until 2008 Woodson appeared with several groups, including The Temptations Revue together with Dennis Edwards. Despite rumors that Woodson was seriously ill, his second solo album, Never Give Up , was released in 2009 , and he continued to perform live. Woodson died on May 30, 2010 in Southern California of complications from a leukemia disease.
