Hal C. Kern
Harold "Hal" Coleman Kern (born July 14, 1894 in Anaconda , Montana , † February 24, 1985 in Los Angeles ) was an American film editor .
Life
Hal C. Kern worked in the field of film editing in Hollywood from 1916 . For 16 years he worked as an editor for film producer David O. Selznick under directors such as Alfred Hitchcock , Victor Fleming , John Cromwell and King Vidor . Together with his colleagues repeated James E. Newcom he could in 1940 the Oscar in the category Best Editing for Flemings Southern epic Gone with the Wind ( Gone with the Wind ) win. 1941 core developed for Hitchcock's Rebecca another nomination to the 1945 for Since You Went Away ( Since You Went Away ) a third followed.
In the 1950s, Kern also worked as a production assistant before retiring from show business in 1963. He died in Los Angeles in 1985 at the age of 90 and was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale . He left behind his wife Eileen Kern and two children.
