Alibi is an American crime film of director Roland West from the year 1929 . The film is based on the play "Nightstick" by Elaine S. Carrington , J. C. Nugent and John Griffith Wray . It premiered in the USA on April 20, 1929.

Chick Williams is released from prison and immediately rejoins his previous gang. When a police officer is murdered in a robbery , he comes under suspicion. The gang had taken Joan, the daughter of a police officer, to the theater, committed the crime during recess, and eventually used her to create an alibi . The police do not shy away from any means during the investigation and even smuggle an undercover agent into the gang to solve the crime.

The film was made at the beginning of the sound film era; therefore, additional scenes were shot for the film that were used for a silent film version that was released at the same time.

In the vocal scenes, the voice of Virginia Flohri can be heard instead of Irma Harrison's voice .
