Astrid Allwyn
Astrid Allwyn (born November 27, 1905 in Manchester , Connecticut as Astrid Allwyn Christofferson , † March 31, 1978 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress who played in around 55 films between 1932 and 1943.
life and career
Astid Allwyn, a native of Connecticut, studied dance and acting in New York in the 1920s. She then began her acting career in the theater, so she played in Elmer Rice's play Street Scene around 1929 . Already three years later, Allwyn was in Hollywood for the first time in front of the camera, to which the blonde was also helped by her Swedish roots, because at the time Scandinavian actresses were in great demand because of the enormous popularity of the Swedish Greta Garbo . However, Allwyn never made her big breakthrough as a film star, although she was good-looking, she mainly played hypothermic and calculating women. In 1936, Allwyn made child star Shirley Temple as their opponent in Stowaway and Dimples , making life hell. Not infrequently, Allwyn also played the role of the "other woman", who is abandoned by the main actor in the course of the film, such as Charles Boyer in Restless Love from 1939.
In the same year, she played the sly daughter of Claude Rains in the political satire Mr. Smith goes to Washington , which turns the head of a naive young senator ( James Stewart ). In 1943, Allwyn retired from the acting business after making 55 films, mostly because of her children. She was married to the actor Robert Kent (1908–1955) from 1937 until the divorce in 1940, they had one child. In 1941 she married the businessman Charles O. Fee, the marriage lasted until her death and they had two daughters, who later also worked as actresses. Astrid Allwyn died of cancer in 1978 at the age of 72 and was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
