Judy Canova (born November 20, 1913 in Starke , Florida , as Juliette Canova , † August 5, 1983 in Hollywood , California ) was an American actress , comedian and radio host .

life and career

The daughter of a cotton merchant and a concert singer was already on stage with her siblings under the name Three Georgia Crackers at the age of 12 . The siblings also made some radio appearances in which they sang and yodeled. Canova had worked in Hollywood since the 1930s. As a film actress, she never made the breakthrough to star, but was seen in some cheaper movie comedies that were set in rural areas, in the lead role. She was even more successful on the radio with the Judy Canova Show , which ran between 1943 and 1955: The show was at times one of the ten most successful radio shows in the United States and reached a peak of around 18 million listeners. She has also appeared several times on Broadway in New York and on show stages in Las Vegas .

Canova was married four times, including her first marriage from 1936 to 1939 to the well-known comedian Bob Burns . Her daughter Diana Canova (* 1953) from her fourth marriage is also an actress and has appeared in the series Soap - Trautes Heim, among others. Judy Canova died of cancer in 1983 at the age of 69 and was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California . It is immortalized in the film and radio categories with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
