Olha Avilova

Olha Matwijiwna Awilowa ( Ukrainian Ольга Матвіївна Авілова , Russian Ольга Матвеевна Авилова Olga Matveyevna Awilowa * 10. September 1918 in Beschiza , Oryol Governorate , Soviet Russia ; † 27. December 2009 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Soviet -ukrainische surgeon, a university professor and co-founder of thoracic surgery in Ukraine.

Life

Avilova was born in the city of Beshitsa ( Бежица ), a district in the northwest of the city of Bryansk since 1956 , and went to school in Bryansk. She then studied at the Medical Institute in Smolensk , which she graduated from in 1941, and then served as a Red Army soldier in World War II as a surgeon and head of the surgical department in the military hospital in Bryansk. Between 1945 and 1955 she worked as a doctor. From 1955 she worked as assistant professor at the Kiev Institute for training of doctors ( Київському ін-ті вдосконалення лікарів ), today's National Medical Academy for Postgraduate Education ( Національна медична академія післядипломної освіти імені П. Л. Шупика ) and since 1973 as a professor of thoracoabdominal Surgery. Between 1975 and 1988 she was director of the institute there.

In 1974 she defended her dissertation resection and plastic surgery of the bronchi and mediastinal trachea with Nikolai Amossow . Under her leadership, emergency care was created for victims with chest trauma, spontaneous pneumothorax and foreign bodies in the airways and esophagus. She was the founder of the scientific school for reconstructive surgery of the trachea and bronchi. A habilitation and 19 dissertations were completed under her leadership. She wrote about 300 scientific papers, including 2 monographs. Avilova died at the age of 91 on December 27, 2009 in Kiev and was buried there in the Berkovetsky Cemetery .

Honors

Olha Avilova received numerous honors, including the Order of the Red Star in 1944, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1971 and the State Prize of the USSR in 1974 . In 1962 she was awarded the honorary title of Honored Doctor of Ukraine and in 1982 the honorary title of Honored Scientist of Ukraine . The National Bank of Ukraine was in honor of her 100th birthday on September 3, 2018 2 hryvnia - commemorative coin out.
