Hank Worden
Hank Worden (born July 23, 1901 in Rolfe , Iowa , † December 6, 1992 in Los Angeles , California ), actually Norton Earl Worden , was an American rodeo rider and actor . He was close friends with the director Howard Hawks and belonged to the inner circle of the John Ford Stock Company , making him a friend and intimate partner of John Ford and John Wayne .
Life
Hank Worden grew up on a cattle ranch in Montana . He trained as an engineer at Stanford and the University of Nevada. Since 1940 he was married to his wife Louise, who died in 1977. They adopted their daughter Dawn Henry as an adult.
Hank Worden initially worked professionally as a rodeo rider. Together with his friend and colleague Tex Ritter , with whom he had performed in New York's Madison Square Garden, he came to show business in 1930 when he was the cattle carer in the background on the Broadway show Green Grow the Lilacs . In Hollywood , too , he initially fulfilled similar functions and also played in smaller supporting roles, for example in the western The Hero of the Prairie by Cecil B. DeMille , which was his debut film , but was only released later than some smaller follow-up productions in which he was involved . Since then, Worden has been in front of the camera regularly, mostly in western productions. He played mostly cowboys, occasionally trappers, sometimes Indians, and sometimes the bizarre owl type. He played this role in one of his most impressive performances as Mose Harper in the western classic The Black Falcon by John Ford. Worden was involved in most of the westerns of his friends Ford, Hawks and Wayne, as well as in other classics, such as Duel in The Sun by King Vidor or The Obsessed by Marlon Brando .
Since the 1950s, Hank Worden has appeared in well-known and popular television series, preferably western series. He played in The Lone Ranger , Daniel Boone and Bonanza . Standing in front of the camera until shortly before his death, he still worked in the series Twin Peaks at the age of 90 . In movie cast lists, Hank Worden is also referred to as Worden Norton , Heber Snow , Hank Warden, or Norton E. 'Hank' Worden .
