Rand Brooks
Arlington Rand Brooks Jr. (born September 21, 1918 in Los Angeles , California - † September 1, 2003 in Santa Ynez , California) was an American actor .
Life
After leaving school, he was tried by MGM as an actor and made his film debut in 1938 opposite Mickey Rooney in Love Finds Andy Hardy . But he became known in Gone with the Wind as Scarlett's good-natured, but very naive first man Charles Hamilton. He dies in the war just weeks after the wedding, which is why Brooks' role was limited to only a few scenes. In the next few years Brooks was mostly used in westerns or comedies, where he embodied romantic lovers. However, it stayed with supporting roles. In the mid-1940s, Brooks played the role of Lucky Jenkins about twelve times in the B-film series Hopalong Cassidy with William Boyd . In 1948 he was the actor who gave the then still unknown Marilyn Monroe her first film kiss in Ich tanze in dein Herz at the side of Adele Jergens . In the 1950s, Brooks was Cpl. Randy Boone in the children's television series The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin a recurring part. While he subsequently starred in many western television series, he was rarely seen in movies.
In 1966, Rand Brooks started a private ambulance service that grew rapidly and later became the largest of its kind in the Los Angeles area. This is one of the reasons why he withdrew from the acting business in 1974 after almost 140 film and television appearances. Books sold the ambulance service in 1994 and retired to his ranch in the Santa Ynez Valley , where he continued to breed horses. He died of cancer in September 2003 at the age of 84. His first marriage was from 1948 to 1976 with Lois Laurel (1927-2017), the daughter of comedian Stan Laurel . His second marriage to Hermione Brooks lasted from 1978 until his death. Brooks had two children.
In 1992 he was given the Golden Boot Award , an award for western actors.
