action

Murphy grew up in Texas in an extended family without a father. As the oldest of nine children, he has to help his mother to support the family. When his mother dies, he becomes the head of the family. When World War II breaks out, Murphy is eager to join the US armed forces . The US Marines reject him, however, he is too small and too young for the paratroopers . The US Army accepts him and uses him as a simple infantryman. After basic training, Murphy joins an infantry unit.

Murphy can show courage or bravery in numerous fights. As a result, he is promoted quickly and eventually makes it up to 2nd lieutenant . With the 3rd US Infantry Division , Murphy fights his way through Sicily, Italy and France. His men, especially Johnson, Brandon, and Kerrigan, respect him. In January 1945 Murphy's unit in France - near Colmar - is attacked by German troops. The Americans are withdrawing, the Germans are pursuing them and are quickly moving closer. Murphy stays behind to direct American artillery fire on the advancing Germans. As the Germans get closer, Murphy jumps on a burning tank destroyer and fires the machine gun on board at the enemy, which halts their advance. The wounded Murphy is awarded the Medal of Honor .

Reviews

"American patriotic hero worship, after alleged war experiences of the most awarded US soldier and later actor Audie Murphy."

“He (Murphy) soon wrote a book about his life that was a box-office hit. The film primarily shows Murphy's front-line experiences in North Africa, Italy and France, not entirely clichéd, but exciting. "
