Jesse Hibbs

Jesse John Hibbs (born January 11, 1906 in Normal , Illinois , † February 4, 1985 in Ojai , California ) was an American film and television director. In 1927 and 1928 he played as an offensive tackle ( OT ) on the All- American Football team for the USC Trojans at the University of Southern California .

Life

Football career

Jesse Hibbs was the first captain of the USC Trojans ' National Championship Team in 1928. His teammates in 1926 included Marion Morrison, later also known as the actor John Wayne .

In 1931, Hibbs played in the NFL ( National Football League ) with the Chicago Bears .

In 1999 he was inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame.

Hollywood career

Jesse Hibbs began his career in the US film industry, as did several other USC players in the 1920s and 1930s, including John Wayne , Ward Bond , Cotton Warburton and Aaron Rosenberg , where he became an assistant director . He got his first opportunity as a director in 1953 in the football drama The All American , with Tony Curtis in the lead role. Hibbs mostly shot westerns , in which Audie Murphy often played. With him in the lead role, he turned the biopic To Hell and Back (To Hell and Back) in the year 1955 , in which Murphy played himself. In later years, Hibbs worked primarily for television and directed television series such as, Perry Mason , Smoking Colts, and FBI , as well as various other western series.

Jesse Hibbs retired in 1967. He died of Alzheimer's disease in 1985 in Ojai , California, aged 79 .
