Ritt in den Tod (original title Walk the Proud Land ) is an American western by Jesse Hibbs from 1956 . The plot is based on the real story of 'Indian agent' John Philip Clum, as told by Clum's son, Woodworth Clum, in the 1936 biography "Apache Agent".
action
In 1874, Clum, an Eastern government representative, traveled to San Carlos, Arizona . He tries a new approach to achieve peace with the Apaches , more through respect for their autonomy than through submission to the army. But he is exposed to suspicion on the part of the European settlers, as well as on the part of the army and the Indians, especially Geronimos . A Native American widow named Tianay falls in love with Clum, even though Clum is in love with Mary Dennison. Clum receives help from his Irish-American friend Tom Sweeney.
reception
The film wasn't a box office success, possibly due to the fact that Murphy played a peacemaking mediator rather than a battle-loving action hero that audiences were more likely to expect at the time.
