Verso ( Latin versus “turned, turned”) refers to the back of a sheet of paper , papyrus , parchment or a bank note (for coins: reverse ). Originally, it was used in papyrology to describe the mostly unwritten outside of the papyrus roll, on which the individual papyrus strips are perpendicular to the lines of writing and the length of the roll. As an abbreviation for pagination, an occasionally superscript “v” following the ordinal number without a space is used, e.g. B. 2v or 2 v (picture).

The front of a sheet is called the recto .
