The statutory regulations on sick pay can be found in Sections 16 - 16 h BVG. According to § 1 BVG, sickness benefits are due to health-impaired persons of the Bundeswehr , the Federal Border Guard , insofar as their damage is due to military or military-like service or as a result of an accident during the exercise of military or military-like service or due to the conditions peculiar to this service (professional activities and operations) is due. In addition, analogous legal regulations are drawn up for, for example, commuting accidents or captivity.

The benefits are provided for the duration of the incapacity for work . They amount to 80% of the standard wage and, in accordance with Section 16a of the Federal Pension Act, may not exceed the regular net wages lost.
