Versus X is a German progressive rock band that formed in 1991.

history

Versus X developed out of the band Vague Venture in 1991 in order to better implement the musical ideas of Arne Schäfer (g, voc) and Stefan Maywald (dr). The first pieces were written with Lukas Ernst on the keyboards until he had to retire for professional reasons and his part has since been taken over by Ekkehard Nahm (kb, b-pedals).

Since then, Arne Schäfer and Ekkehard Nahm have formed the musical basis of the band, which is strongly oriented towards the classics of progressive rock (early Genesis , Yes , Gentle Giant , ELP or King Crimson ) and composed through rather long, keyboard-heavy pieces with extensive ones Instrumental passages.

Versus X often use unusual harmonies and odd rhythms, but also catchy melodies and weave these elements into complex song structures with abstract, associative lyrics and high emotional quality.

The first album “Versus X” was recorded by the Schäfer / Nahm / Maywald trio and, like all other Versus X CDs, was recorded by Andreas Tofahrn. Later on, Stefan Dilley joined on the bass guitar. After the album “Disturbance” Maywald and Dilley left the band for professional reasons and were replaced by Thomas Keller (b) and Uwe Völlmar (dr).

With this line-up, the album "The Turbulent Zone" was created, the release of which followed several international festival appearances by Versus X, among others. a. in France, Spain, Holland, Germany and Belgium.

Versus X played u. a. so far five times in the music club "Spirit of 66" in Belgium, where in 2001 the live album "Live at the Spirit" was recorded.

After the album "Primordial Ocean", drummer Uwe Völlmar left the band for professional reasons and was replaced by the "drummer" Thomas Reiner.
