Defense equipment standard

Defense equipment standards are standards for defense equipment and systems that were previously issued by the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement, today by its successor, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr , similar to the MIL standards issued by the US Department of Defense . They are published in German and English. While MIL standards are available free of charge on the Internet, defense equipment standards must be obtained from Beuth-Verlag for a fee .

In order to save procurement costs, defense equipment standards are only used today where civil standards are insufficient. In the past, the content of defense equipment standards has often been incorporated into civil standards, as these are developed in coordination with civil standardization bodies.
