Representative body
A representative body is understood to be the representation of the citizens as the main body of a local authority . There are different names for this in Germany:
- for districts and districts : district council
- for cities : city council, city council, city council
- for municipalities : municipal council , municipal council (Hessen)
- in city-states in the districts: district assembly
What is always meant is the body at the local level in which the citizens elected in local elections gather. In counties and cities, the representative body is the highest body; it decides on all matters that are not part of the day-to-day administration and, for example, issues statutes .
