The VfL Resse 08 (full name: Verein für Leibesübungen Resse 1908 eV ) is a sports club from the Gelsenkirchen district of Resse . The association was founded in 1908.
history
As champion of the district class , VfL Resse rose to the Landesliga Westfalen Season 2 Southwest in 1948 and played for the championship there in the 1948/49 season . After some controversial game ratings by the association as well as a defeat on the last match day, they finished third at the end of the season, two points behind the champions SpVgg Herten . Although this placement would have been enough for inclusion in the newly founded 2. Oberliga West , the association was not considered by the association. Instead, the fifth placed Westfalia Herne was included in the 2nd league. The VfL had to remain in the national league. In the following season 1949/50 the club was regrouped in season 1, only took 15th and last place and thus had to relegate back to the district class.
Probably the greatest success in the club's history was winning the championship title of the Landesliga Westfalen Season 3 in the 1959/60 season and the associated promotion to the Association League Westphalia , the highest amateur league for Westphalia at the time. The 1960/61 season ended the VfL in twelfth place, the last non-relegation place. In the following season 1961/62 the team managed to improve to eleventh place in the table and the season ended even before the renowned team of SG Wattenscheid 09 . In the same year in the West German Cup, they were among the last eight amateur clubs remaining in the competition. For the 1962/63 season , VfL was regrouped once again in Season 1, again only occupying 15th and last place in the table, so that the club had to return to the Landesliga Westfalen after only three years of stint in the highest amateur league.
In 1971 the club was relegated to the 1st district class and played again in the district league from 1982 to 1984 and from 1985 to 1987. In 2013 VfL Resse was relegated to the district league C and thus slipped into the lowest division. In 2016 he was promoted to the district league B, which was followed three years later by the jump to the district league A.
