The VfL Wedau (officially: Verein für Leibesübungen Wedau 1918 eV ) is a sports club from the Wedau district of Duisburg . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.

history

The association was founded in 1918. In 1930 the first team was promoted to the then second-class 1st district class in the Lower Rhine region . Two years later, VfL became champions of his season, but missed promotion to the top division for unknown reasons. After the end of the Second World War , the Wedauer were one of the founding members of the Lower Rhine Regional Football League , the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine at the time. The team promptly dismounted from this.

In 1953 the club went down to the district class. Three years later they were promoted again, with VfL benefiting from third place in the table from the waiver of the runner-up, the amateur team of TuS Duisburg 48/99 . In 1960 it went back down to the county class. After the team had meanwhile crashed to the lowest division, the district league C, the Wedauer have been playing in the district league B again since their promotion in 2014.
