Vibia Sabina (* around 86; † around 136) was the wife of the Roman emperor Hadrian .

Coin portrait of Vibia Sabina

Her parents were Lucius Vibius Sabinus and the elder Matidia , whose mother Ulpia Marciana was the sister of the Emperor Trajan . His wife Plotina arranged a marriage between Vibia Sabina and Hadrian in the year 100, who also belonged to Trajan's family. The marriage was considered unhappy and remained childless. A source reports that Sabina is said to have had a child aborted. According to the Historia Augusta , the Praetorian prefect Gaius Septicius Clarus and the writer Suetonius are said to have come closer to her than is proper.

Vibia Sabina accompanied her husband on his extensive travels through the Roman Empire . Her visit to the Colossi of Memnon in 130 is documented by several poems by court poet Iulia Balbilla . In 128 she received the honorary title Augusta . She died before her husband and was consecrated as Diva Sabina (raised among the official gods).
