Vibrations (waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vibrations is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 204). The work was performed for the first time on January 19, 1858 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The work was composed and performed for the medicine ball during Mardi Gras in 1858. Accordingly, it was dedicated to the medical students of the University of Vienna. The name goes back to the use of vibrators in medicine. Musically, Strauss continued his reform of waltz music, which he had already begun with a few earlier works. Once again he brought up stylistic elements from Franz Liszt , Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi . Even at the premiere, the waltz received only partial applause. As a result, he could not really prevail.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes and 15 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
