Victor Gerley

Victor Gerley is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who played six times for the United States national soccer team between 1965 and 1968 .

Career in the national team

Gerley was used in all four qualifying games for the 1966 World Cup . With one win against Honduras without conceding , one draw and two defeats, the US team failed to qualify. In the 2-2 draw against Mexico on March 7, 1965, the US team led; Mexico were able to compensate for a penalty taken by Gerley through unsportsmanlike conduct. From 1968 Gerley was replaced by Gary DeLong as the goalkeeper. Nevertheless, Gerley was used four more times. He played his last game in the national team on October 21, 1968 in a friendly against Haiti , which the US team lost 5-2.

Career as a club player

In 1962 Gerley played for New York Hungaria . In the 1969/70 season he started for the New York Ukranians in the German-American Soccer League .
