Victor Schmidt & Sons was an Austrian confectionery manufacturer that was founded in 1858 and has been part of the Manner company since 2000 .
history
The company Victor Schmidt was registered by its founder Victor Anton Schmidt on January 1, 1858 as a chocolate manufacturing business . The first location was at Goldeggasse 6 in Vienna's 4th district .
As early as 1864, the company, which had grown very quickly, got into economic turmoil and bankruptcy could only just be averted. Nevertheless, the company continued to grow quickly and became internationally known.
In 1872 the company name (company) was changed to Victor Schmidt & Sohn , as the eldest son Victor Ladislaus joined the company. In 1884 the senior retired from the company.
Manufactured products were chocolate bars, peppermints, but also fig coffee , jams and pasta. Everything was produced between 1880 and 1905 with between 800 and 1,000 employees, depending on the season. As the production facility in the 4th district was soon no longer sufficient, a new factory designed by the architect Wilhelm Klingenberg was built in Simmering on Geiselbergstrasse in 1905 . During the First World War , the later resistance fighter Rosa Jochmann was a worker in this factory.
In 1931 the company received the state award and was allowed to use the federal coat of arms in business dealings. The company also had a factory football team, among other things, in the seasons 1933/34 , 1934/35 and 1935/36 the Austrian Football Cup , up to and including 1934/35 nor Wiener Cup called, took part.
Towards the end of the Second World War , production had to be stopped due to a lack of raw materials. It was not until 1947 that the necessary food was allocated again so that production could be restarted. Mainly bonbonnier and Mozart balls were produced . The own trademark used was Ildefonso , which still exists after the takeover by Manner to this day.
In the 1970s, Schmidt bought the competitor Gustav & Wilhelm Heller . In 1994 the company itself was bought by Nestle. In 2000, Nestle sold the Schmidt brand to Manner and Heller to Storck.
Product lines
Both Victor Schmidt and Ildefonso were company-owned trademarks, but were also sold to Manner when they were sold to Manner, where they still have their market presence today.
