vidaXL is an online shop from the Netherlands , which is represented in 29 European countries as well as Australia and the USA . In 2016, the company achieved sales of around 175 million euros. The company's headquarters are in Venlo (The Netherlands). According to its own information, the company employed around 1400 people at the beginning of 2020.

history

In 2006 the Dutch Gerjan den Hartog and Wouter Bakker started buying products from China and then selling them on eBay . The range of goods grew rapidly and in 2008 it was decided to open its own online shop under the name "Koopgooedkoop.nl", the German branch was called "Direktzugreifen.de".

In 2009 the first office was opened in Utrecht . The office and distribution center in Venray followed in 2012, and an office in Shanghai was opened in the same year. In 2013 the first products of the own brand "vidaXL" were sold. The vidaXL online shop expanded in 2014 in eight European countries as well as Australia. In 2016, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary and expanded into the USA, with annual sales of around 175 million euros. In addition, the first vidaXL commercials ran on Dutch television in 2017 and the online shop was expanded into a marketplace, where external providers can now sell their goods on commission.

In December 2017 the company moved to its new headquarters in Venlo , which is connected to a distribution center with 100,000 m² of storage space, it is the largest e-commerce distribution center in the Netherlands. Up to 60,000 orders per day should be processed there.

The company cooperates with over 500 manufacturers worldwide and offers over 8,500 products of its own brand "vidaXL" in its 29 online shops. It receives up to 100,000 orders per week and the company has 3.5 million customers per year. The distribution centers have a total size of 60,000 m². The company generates around 70% of sales outside of the Netherlands, with Germany being the largest sales market. The company's turnover is growing by between 40% and 50% annually (as of 2017).

criticism

In the WDR broadcast “Markt” on May 3, 2017, a seating group made of teak from vidaXL was tested. It turned out that the product offered is not made of teak but of acacia wood and, according to the instructions provided, the table was impossible to assemble by the test persons. The company then withdrew the product from the range.
