Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics

The Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM: Viện nghiên cứu cao cấp về toán) is a state institute for basic mathematical research in Hanoi .

history

The institute was founded in December 2010 as part of the "National Program for the Development of Mathematics". The inauguration took place on January 17, 2012.

The first research group started its work in February 2012. Scientific director is Ngo Bao Chau , professor at the University of Chicago and winner of the Fields Medal 2010.

Working method

The institute has no permanent academic staff, but organizes temporary research groups made up of visiting researchers and postdocs with limited contracts who work on specific topics for a limited period of time. It also organizes conferences, workshops, seminars and summer schools.
