The Vietnamese National Museum of Fine Arts ( Vietnamese : Viện Bảo tàng Mỹ thuật Việt Nam; Hán tự: 院 寶藏 美術 越南) is located in the capital Hanoi , Vietnam . The museum was opened in 1963 and is located in the building of a former Catholic girls' boarding house, built in 1937.

It is a museum that shows the fine arts of Vietnam. It is the main art museum in the country, the second is the smaller Fine Arts Museum in Ho Chi Minh City .

Much of the 20th century artwork presented in the museum deals with folk tales of a nation in defense. As a collection, it draws on topics such as martyrdom, patriotism, military strategy, and overcoming enemy invasions. The museum presents a collection of paintings from the late 20th and early 21st centuries, including works by artists exploring abstraction and abstract impressionism. The oldest artifacts include, for example, the valuable sandstone sculptures from the Champa and Funan kingdoms and the elegantly carved Amitabha Buddha image, which was created around 1057.
