The Villa Clara football team represents the province of Villa Clara in the annual Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol de Cuba , the competition for the Cuban football championship. The selection is based in the municipality of Zulueta, part of the Municipio Remedios , where it plays its home games in the Camilo Cienfuegos Stadium. In Cuban sports journalism, Zulueta is referred to as the "capital of Cuban football".
history
The provincial selection was set up in parallel to the rest of the country's provinces for the first time in 1978 to participate in the national football championship. With 14 titles won, Villa Clara is the current record champion and thus the most successful province in Cuban football.
