Villa Messmer

The Villa Messmer is a Villa of historicism in Alzenau in Aschaffenburg in Bavaria .

It was built between 1902 and 1904 as a conversion of an existing building as well as additions of music rooms, guest rooms, a lookout tower and farm buildings according to plans by the architect Claus Mehs . The client was the tea merchant Otto Meßmer, who ran the Messmer tea trading company in Frankfurt .

The quarry stone and half-timbered building , located above the city's train station on a spacious plot of land with old trees, gives the impression that it was the result of multiple reconstructions of a late medieval hilltop castle. The house is characterized by the observation tower, which is modeled on the Sinwell Tower of Nuremberg Castle .

After the sale by the Messmer family, the villa became the property of the Catholic Church, which used it as a rectory for a long time. Today it houses a restaurant.

As part of the Bavarian garden exhibition in 2015, the park around the villa was redesigned.
