Villa Rustica (Seeb)
The Villa Rustica near Seeb is the remains of a Roman estate. It is located near the village of Winkel in the canton of Zurich , Switzerland .
The villa rustica initially consisted of a simple hall structure in the first century, which was expanded in several stages and received various wings, including a bathhouse. This villa was part of a larger complex that was surrounded by several walls. Various hall-like buildings in the run-up to the actual villa may once have been barns or storerooms, but also residential buildings for servants. There is a monumental fountain house in front of the manor house. The mansion was decorated with wall paintings and partly with mosaics.
The remains of the villa had been known since at least the 19th century. Parts of the mansion were systematically excavated from 1963 to 1970. The facility is now an open-air museum.
