Villa Schack, December 2018

The Villa Schack is a building southeast of the old town of Hattingen at Friedrichstrasse 3. It was built around 1880/90. It was first named after the spirits manufacturer Weygand, later after the doctor Georg Nauck and his daughter, the teacher Else Nauck and finally after the Schack family.

Johann Schack was born in Neuendorf in 1830 . In 1854 he went on a hike as a carpenter and married in 1862 into the family of the building contractor Papenhoff in Hattingen. The company later bore his name. His son August continued the company, then his son Hans. His great grandson is Peter Papenhoff. Around 1985, the then owner Peter Papenhoff applied for monument protection. The bay windows of the house were subsequently restored. In 2002 the company went bankrupt. The office building on Friedrichstrasse was also auctioned.
