The Villa Widmann , also Widmann Rezzonico Foscari called, is located in Mira , Via Nazionale 420, Venice Province , Italy.
history
The Seriman family, Persian traders, bought a plot of land called la Riscossa with two farmhouses from the Donà family at the end of the 17th century . In 1719 they had a villa, a guest house ( barchessa ) and a chapel built by the architect Antonio Triali . In the second half of the 18th century the villa passed into the possession of the Carinthian family Widmann, who carried out renovations in line with the contemporary French rococo style. Two intersecting attic rooms were added, the ceiling of the salon was broken through to create a high room and the windows were adapted to the current style. The chapel was also expanded by one room and connected to the guest house. As the only one of the Venetian villas of the Terraferma , it was not devastated by the Napoleonic troops. The owner family had personal contact with the French emperor, who issued a letter of protection at their request, which - by no means a matter of course - was also respected by his troops. The villa has been owned by the Province of Venice since 1984 .
The Villa
Despite the square floor plan, the villa looks light and graceful due to the attached attic room and the French windows with balcony grilles. From the vestibule one reaches the large salon with a surrounding gallery, which was painted around 1750 by Giuseppe Angeli , a student of Giambattista Piazzetta and collaborator of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo . On the walls he created the sacrifice of Iphigenies and the robbery of Helena and, as a ceiling painting, the apotheosis of the Widmann family .
The Venetian comedy poet Carlo Goldoni and the musician Igor Stravinski were guests in the villa .
The garden
The well-tended garden on the north side of the villa offers a collection of old, rare trees as well as a roundel with mythological stone figures.
